Dodge Charger Daytona
In 1969 Dodge had its eye on NASCAR and in order to compete it created two of the most desirable of all the Chargers: the Charger 500, and the Charger Daytona. The Charger Daytona is a very rare car and is much sought after today by collectors.
Chrysler had started experimenting with aerodynamics for many decades, but not until 1969 did they release the Charger Daytona, the most aerodynamic car of its time yet this was built on the existing model with relatively few changes.
The 1969 Dodge Daytona is a piece of motoring history, for example it had a drag coefficient of just 0.28, better than most cars made in the 1990s. It alsohad a tall spoiler which was added to keep the rear wheels on the ground at high speeds. In 1970 it set a speed record at 200 mph, and for a production car at the time this top speed simply had no competition. Surprisingly the car didn't sell well because many people at the time thought the new aerodynamic look was ugly. The price was around $4,000 for the Hemi engine.
The 2006 Charger Daytona R/T debuted at the Chicago Motor Show and had a 5 speed Automatic (Triptronic) Transmission. It featured a high output 350 hp (261 kW) engine version of the 5.7 L (345 cu in) Hemi as well as having updated suspension and tires. It is retro and futuristic at the same time because it is not the same as its predecessor: the 1969 version was a coupe, and the 2006 is a sedan. But the feel and nostalgia are right there. And this Charger is a nice looking car that will turn heads. The interior is smart and the room inside is deceptively ample. It is a fun car to driveand one that performs really well on the road. Buy it now and in thirty years you may just have a rare car that will be much sought after by collectors.
